a poem

I’d Rather

I’d rather wash the dishes
I’d rather kiss a frog.
I’d rather get an F in math
or run a ten-mile jog.
I’d rather do my homework.
I’d rather mow the lawn.
I’d rather take the garbage out.
I’d rather wake at dawn.
I’d rather dine on Brussels sprouts
or catch the chicken pox.
I’d rather do most anything
than clean the litter box.

AN ACROSTIC POEM

You stupid, you are the
One who makes me
Unhappy  and miserable
All you give is pain and
Regrets for
Everything I have done with you
Besides, I don't even wonder if you’re still
Existing or not
All I want is
Until you come again ,  to be
Totally recovered, and
I also wish I could
Forget you and every
Unimportant detail about you and
Live happily ever after!

* It's written for an imaginary person :D

Hello my name is Sena,
I’m from Turkey. I study at METU Foreign Language Education.  I am a freshman.  My hometown is Konya and my family live there. I have two brothers; Umut ( 4 years old ) and Ahmet ( 15 years old) .
I have always been interested in English. That’s why I chose to be an English teacher. I am also interested in other cultures and languages. I really enjoy learning about them.  I like meeting new people. So, I decided to join this website.

About me : I like listening music. I don't listen a specific genre but any song I like.
I like painting, drawing and anything about art! Last year, I exhibited my several paintings on our school’s exhibition. I entered several art contests.  I was awarded cash, and prizes.  I help children develop their drawing at my teacher’s atelier.
I play violin. I love piano and I wish I could learn to play it one day.
I love reading book . I like criminal, detective stories and poems.
I am also interested in baking cookies, cakes, cupcakes.  Whenever I am upset, I bake . I think it’s a kind of therapy for me.

My weak side is cats. I really hate them. I don’t know why but I feel uncomfortable when they are around. Unfortunately, in my university there are a lot of cats! It is not very easy for me to get adjusted.

EXERCISES ON PARALLELISM

#1:  Our beagle loves to hunt when someone opens the back door for her.  She barrels down porch steps into the yard, runs back and forth across the lawn in ecstasy.  Her nose cruises the wet grass for smells of cats, rabbits, and other presences too subtle for human detection.  She sniffs, spins her tail in quick circles.  It spins clockwise first  then counterclockwise.  These activities always occur together.  They are sniffing and spinning and seem to propel her along.

#2: The Government Printing Office in Washington D.C., which is the official publishing house for the federal government, is a source of much useful information, however, few people know about it.  The GPO publishes pamphlets and books on a vast number of subjects ranging from the dangers of X-rays, home TV sets to the identification of mushrooms.  About 27,000 publications are offered through the Superintendent of Documents.  Many of them are inexpensive or free at all for some.

#3: A man reaping America’s first fortune was John Jacob Astor.  He was a lowborn, uneducated German immigrant.  He made his initial money trading Indian furs, and never learned to speak English properly.  He carried on his business to the end in an accent which was redolent of the Hamburg gutters.
